Support Staff Response
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting Server Support.
Unfortunately, we are unable to restore access to your server. When attempting to boot the server, the server experiences a kernel panic. All attempts with other kernels and in single user mode results in the same behavior. A reprovision of your server would be necessary in order to restore connectivity. The reprovision of the server will remove all content and reset the server to the default settings.
To reprovision your server, deleting all data and applications and returning the server to its initial setup state, please follow the instructions below:
1) Log in to your account.
2) Select ‘Servers’ link.
3) Click ‘Launch Manager’ next to the Server that you’d like to reprovision. It will open up in a new window.
4) Click on the ‘Support’ section to expand it and then click on the ‘Reprovision’ button.
5) Confirm the reprovision.
Please note: reprovisioning the server will erase all the data on the server, including any backups stored on the server. You are responsible for the integrity of your data backup and restoration.
Please contact us if you have any further issues.
XXXX.

What a pity! I hope it does not take long to rebuilt the server installation.
I’m using SearchLotus.com ( http://searchlotus.com/blogs) for the meantime. That site uses Google to show new blog entries, but planetlotus produces a better output.

Ah, forgot a whitespace after the url:

Yancy, they won’t let you mount the drive from another running machine and tarball off your working web server code, data, and config? With that, you should be able to restore onto a new machine in no time at all.

No backups? Who are these people hosting your site? I want to make sure I never use them or meet them. Remember a backup is an image of your data stored somewhere else!

Afaik it is GoDaddy. Their policy is quite simple. You have to ensure that your data is safe in case of a failure.I know why I run my own servers as I have been burned more than once with cheap hosting providers.Good luck and I hope you will be back online soon.

Maybe you could ask for the complete kernel panic message, then ask to relocate the hard drive to the new server in order to restore the data.

That is why I use Prominic, they back up their servers.

Thanks for all the great advice.
Bottom line, this is all on me. My backup methods were piss poor, this is what i get. It turns out I have/had many options at my disposal that are top notch, I just never finished investigating and implementing. I’ve become the guy I joke about to other admins and it sucks. You live and learn. A top notch backup solution will be in place in the coming days, this won’t happen again.
I did have a backup of the PL data as of 12/21 so the site is fresh to that date, the rest of the server data is a different story.
GoDaddy isn’t to blame. They made it clear I was responsible and I don’t expect them to do anything more. Its a dedicated server, I know the risks that poses. I’m just hoping they put me on new hardware; the fan went last time there was an outage.
