My most geeky chat ever… Nathan T Freeman-20080406.html
This IM started after I posted a comment on Nathan's "How I got started with Lotus Notes" post. Welcome to my inner geek. If you're interested in IM'ing with others in the community start here. Basically he said he was destine to be a Notes developer on the count of his NTF initials, where I commended "I knew I should of gone into fashion." count of my initials.... YSL. (Yves saint Laurent).
SnTT: IM YellowBleeders without Sametime.
Yes; I know it's Friday.
Here is how to configure Pidgin to 'Sametime' with the greater YellowBleeders community. More details on Pidgin here. The following is the instructions for Pidgin on Ubuntu. I will assume the same procedure will work for Windows.
1. In Pidgin click Accounts / Add/Edit. Once open click Add.
2. Add your account info
3. Click the Advance tab.
4. Add the im.bleedyellow.com server
5. Change the proxy type to No Proxy then Save.
6. Go back to the main dialog and click Accounts select the Sametime account and choose "Add Notes Address Book Group..." and add YellowBleeders
Ray Ozzie’s blog… from silent to empty.
I won't read too much into this. His last post was Sat, Apr 1st 2006.
Lotus 911′s Dirty Little Secret
Just about 100 of us are using their Sametime gateway at bleedyellow.com to have random, often personal conversations. The trouble is, all our ‘keystrokes' are going through their server. The beauty of Sametime is all of this can be logged… but it isn't. Guess how I know? Tim Tripcony said so! You may find that funny but if you've ever read his posts on politics, government, etc. you'd understand why that's all I need to know.
But for some of us in the community this isn't enough, so the Lotus 911 bleed yellow team caucused and went into quick action. They've setup an advisory committee to peer audit their server configuration. Issue settled.
IM bleeding yellowr.
My head is spinning from all the excitement in the Lotus air. The short lived post Lotusphere lull came to an abrupt end with the release of ND 8.0.1. and then Notes Widgets everywhere. Caucuses formed, catalogs were built and the masses started contributing at break neck speed.
Now Sametime is pop'n. Not due to a specific release or even an announcement, rather a clever re-announcement that drops names. And yes, the bleedyellow.com podcast also helped! The lowdown; Bleedyellow.com is hosting a Sametime server that is open to all that register and connecting to it couldn't be easier.

Nice work Lotus 911!!
An “under the covers” look at Lotus Connections
Mitch Cohen has put together a step by step walk though of his Lotus Connections implementation. Mitch goes beyond his choices and presents all the different implementation options, i.e., db flavors, directory integration, etc. It's a great introduction to this exciting and very MODERN offering from Lotus.
If you're interested in taking a peek under the covers, do check his post out!
Now the story behind the story. Mitch starts his post expalaining how it came to be. Now my side of the story. Simply, thanks for posting this Mitch. I literally walked out of the Connections demos at Lotusphere saying to myself... "Cool, but what does it look like under the hood???". Having read your post I can now visualize it.
If anyone is urning to see a topic blogged about; like I was, don't hesitate to post it here. You never know, someone might just pick it up.
BleedYellow.com, the Good and Bad
Let's start with the Bad. The timing! Great for getting the word out, bad for those of us that can't play because we're racing to get to Orlando!
The Good… what an understatement. The site is amazing in so many ways.
Hands On
I've wanted to get my hands on Connections for a year now, almost exactly and forgive my ignorance if the Greenhouse provides this ability.
It's one thing setting up a stand alone box with your own boring data, it's another all together experiencing it with others. I need this experience. I've read white papers but it's just not the same.
Permanence
There is something about a site; like this, setup by an outside organization or group that has a feeling of permanence. You feel comfortable committing to it because it will be there tomorrow, it's not an event or release themed offering. This feeling makes it easier to commit. I won't treat bleedyellow.com like I'm checking it out, I'll treat it like a community that I want to build and see grow.
Getting the word out
Now all of us using the site can be advocates in our organizations in a way we couldn't say, with mere research on the web. I find the best way to get the power of something across is to feed off the moment, say in a meeting where someone brings up the need to harness the talents of those in external departments… you can not only offer a suggestion but, now, back it up with a similar solution you experienced on… bleedyellow.com.
I've been on the site all of 5 minutes and just feel it's a hit in theory and execution. One questions i do have is if we'll know what's out of the box and what's customized… guess we'll all have to wait for the podcast
Awesome job guys!
